Traditional Upholstery
Traditional upholstery techniques date back to the seventeenth century and typically use loose fillings, such as hair and coir which are hand-stitched to create the firmness and shape. Because of the longevity of traditional fillings, these can often be restored rather than requiring a complete replacment. Traditional upholstery is highly-skilled and will ensure that the character and value of an antique piece is retained.
Modern Upholstery
Modern upholstery is typically used on post-1950s furniture and the primary filling used is typically foam. This type of upholstery is more cost-effective, easier to work with and better suited to modern furniture frames. Foam has a lifespan of approximately twenty years and we can offer advice on the appropriate type of filling in the event that replacement is required.
